After dinner last night at the Lodge, we went down in the "taproom" and listened to Mark Tobolski play some great guitar and familiar songs - he was great. We've heard some very good singer-songwriters at national park lodges over the years.
We had a nice breakfast at the Big Meadows Lodge this morning; then continued our drive south through the park on Skyline Drive. It was a glorious day - cloudless sky and low 80's by afternoon. Foliage still beautiful, but not as much as further north. Skyline Drive ends in Waynesboro, VA and then becomes the Blue Ridge Parkway, which eventually ends all the way down at Great Smoky Mtn Nat'l Park. Its a beautiful road but boy, is it slow! So we got off in Vesuvius, VA and hopped on I-81, continuing on to Wytheville for the night. Found a Waffle House. Here in the East its hard to avoid the Interstates. I-81 is a very busy north south trucking route, probably #2 behind I-95. Not fun.
Tomorrow will drive the Blue Ridge Parkway some more and meet old friend Bob Z. for lunch in Boone, NC. ("Crazy Bob" to our kids). Then on to Knoxville- can't get back west fast enough!
